Its not that long ago I asked the question to Internet marketers “do you have a blog and why?” Just like many marketing companies are not so sure about social media in Leeds the most common reply was that that they had a blog but were not sure why, only that it they thought they needed one but not sure why.
You Reap What You Write
Since I have added blogs or built websites using “WordPress” ( WordPress is an open source blog publishing application powered by PHP and MySQL which can also be used for content management) I have seen amazing results.
If you put that keyword into Google you find it in a very healthy position.
Google Local Domination
Most of my clients have upgraded to blogs on their website and can often be found up to 5 times on the first page of Google. This is fantastic because they are dominating their local area for that chosen keyword and if you see the same website so many times your in a good shot of getting at least one click through.
A great example of this is with the keyword “winter tyres in Wakefield”
In the winter months my client saw a massive increase in traffic and calls because of the blog and how we had written about the subject and offering tyre safety checks in Wakefield.
My message is simple. While social media is the talk of the town (we are doing this for some clients with mixed results) and is set to grow, do not overlook the power of having a blog on your site. This is tried and tested and when done right, it will increase your calls and improve your profits!

As a company that tracks all our clients calls ( call tracking software ) and advise on what action to take, it always amazes me things are quite not what you think they are. I was about to drop some ads for a client and save them about £6500. It was only when I went through the call stats and realized that facts over rule perception. I managed to save £1500 off the ads, but I know that many companies would have saved the lot, but lost out on a lot of business.

It is easier to rank on video than it is to get your website ranked for the same search term.
Although you are not guaranteed to get on google first page, with some smart SEO work
it can be done. This may take a while for a competitive keyword but it is worth it because there
is not the same competion and Google usually display one to two videos. If you are the first it will
make too expensive for others to catch up!

From Leeds to London, York to New York, Google today will automatically choose ‘place search’ (also known to a lot of people as Google Maps) if it thinks your query is about a place and not just a general search.
Google reckon that 20% of searches are now coming up with Google Places. I believe that this will increase over time and with Google encouraging businesses to use ‘Places’ for free they will eventually start charging for it. The new slick appearance is also a good indicator that they are looking to create revenue from this.
local businesses who are not taking advantage of this are missing out on quality free traffic.
